It's your chance to go for GOLD in the WORLD'S GREATEST WINTER SPORTS SPECTACLE

Over 10,000 words of text and voice overs An introduction to Norway and Norwegian culture including a Lillehammer profile Historic video footage and stills tell the illustrious tale of the Winter Olympics, plus memories of 98 past gold medallists. A full overview of the 1994 Olympic Winter Games with venue descriptions and explanatory rules for each event."

The game recommends a 386/25 which I use for the gameplay. The media part I had to run around a Pentium 60 else the audio would finish before the video and end it but the game it self falls apart at this speed. The game has two cds in the box. One for Double speed drives played here and one for single speed drives with lower resolution. The video firstly foes through all the encyclopaedia section of the CDROM going through each section one by one. I firstly display any on screen text for a short time followed by any videos or pictures. -=PAUSE THE VIDEO TO READ TEXT SCREENS=-

Winter Olympics - was released across the main platforms of the time with the PC version played here being the first one off the line and is most like the Amiga game with only five events instead of ten on the console versions. All the versions can be frustratingly difficult to achieve the gold requirements but this first game on PC sets the bar real high. You can choose from three difficulty modes but there is not a huge difference between them, maybe one or two seconds and really there is no benefit to playing on the harder setting with no extra recognition for your efforts.

Control is fairly simple with a choice of keyboard or joystick. Usually requiring some specific button presses at the right time or some left-right waggling. You don't always get time to make corrections and it's all too easy to get any timing specific inputs wrong. I found bobsleigh particularly hard in this version as the way the tunnel works it will knock you out if you don't turn at the exact right moment. Also aiming your rifle does not work well here and plays like those old darts games where you have to bounce the reticule around. Non of the other conversions had such an issue giving much more control.

Overall I don't think it's a bad game and fairly well made for a Tiertex release , maybe there best work but their is not much fun to be found trying to reach those gold times. Maybe good for a quick game in multiplayer where these games are usually best played

Bonus Videos. I have included recordings of the Floppy Disk game. The first using Soundblaster music played on Olympic Difficulty. The second is a Sound+music recording using the CM32 and played quite badly at Club difficulty and also shows how close the scores are in the two difficulties but mainly played to show the music. The gameplay is exactly the same across the two releases.
