Player's Review

Original PC DOS Version of the game. For better or worse, MT-32 + Soundblaster supplied by dosbox used for audio. I have longplayed the game to compare with current Amiga, megadrive and snes longplays.

I played on Normal as I didnt want the hassle the Genesis gave me on Expert again. Those Slime aliens really annoy me how they can get under your feet if the roll is slightly mistimed.

This version has more colors and some longer cut scenes than the other versions going in its favor. However, the music just doesn't outshine the Amiga version and for me is a big part of the atmosphere of this game. Also missing is the little jingles you get when encountering a new enemy or a surprise.

There also exists an enhanced version of the game (Flashback CD) which uses the rendered cut scenes from the 3D0 and MegaCD version of the game. However the core game is exactly the same as the original dos versions with no new additions and in fact takes away the subtitles during the cut scenes. The level passcodes change, but even the title screen remains the same as the original.
