Player's Review

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the game follows Edge, a young mercenary whose life changes when he meets a dragon and a mysterious girl from a vanished civilization.

Panzer Dragoon Saga, known in Japan as Azel: Panzer Dragoon RPG, is a 1998 RPG developed by Team Andromeda and published by Sega for the Sega Saturn. It departs from the linear rail shooter gameplay of the Panzer Dragoon series, introducing RPG elements such as random encounters, semi-turn-based battles, and free-roaming exploration.

Aside from the wonderful soundtrack and great visuals, this game also makes all its characters gesticulate and overact like stage actors, which nicely compensates for their relatively featureless and rigid low-polygon models. I think this might be one of the reasons why this game has aged better than many other games from the same time period.

The dialogues in the North American localization have many timing errors due to the difference between Japanese and English languages. If it seems to anyone that I'm switching the lines of dialogue too fast, then I assure you that I'm not pressing anything and the switching is automatic almost all of the time, and when it's not, the fast switching was necessary because you would not see the full conversation otherwise. There is one cutscene when the voice acting just gets cut off by gameplay in the middle of a sentence - that's not my fault either.

Honestly, the only real complaint I have about this game is the fact that you can't break or interact with stuff while moving like in Panzer Dragoon 2: Zwei, which was released on the same platform. But I understand that it's probably because of technical limitations.

In this longplay, I try to show as much as possible, so I get hit a lot in order to show enemy attacks and their damage. There are multiple different images that you can see at the end of the game, depending on your performance. I do not know the specific requirements for getting each of the images, so I did not show them all. If anyone knows how to get them, please tell me so I can add the other ending images to this longplay sometime in the future.
