The Japanese version of Contra includes a text before the gameplay demo, plus an extended ending scene and a secret message if you press and hold Select and Start before the credits roll.
Played with an updated fan translation that IMO is much nicer than the old patch, because the title no longer uses red-ish fonts and also that they got to translate the secret message as well.
