Player's Review
"Too hot to handle? or can you take up the challenge? Equipped with a dazzling range of weapons and skills, travel through scores of different action scenes, battling against the hottest, meanest, mechanized maniacs ever dreamed up! Rescue the kidnapped scientist to halt the corrupt plans of Dr. Evil. Heaps of hardware, Power-Ups, bonuses, booby-trapped bombs and the baddest bosses!"
Based on the earlier Super Stuntman 8 Bit home computer game from Codemasters. The Ultimate Stuntman is massively enhanced stuntman with not only the driving stages with all the jumps and enemies to avoid but also overhead and side on flying sections as well as run and jump platforming. There is a lot in this game with eight levels split into five sections. However, it is also quite a difficult game and doesnt take much to lose all your energy and lives. Once all lives are lost you can continue from the level you reached. To help you, there are weapon powerups, extra energy, extra time as well as extra lives and more can be earned by collecting all items on the driving bonus stages.
Each level starts with a driving or flying section. The driving can be a sports car, boat or buggy. The flying section have you on a hang glider and can be quite difficult as you can adjust height to get over mountains or avoid enemies as well as slow right down to get a better line up on targets but enemy projectiles always seem to find a way to float into you. Driving sections have you moving at speed and with multiple routes available, you ideal need to take the right one that's leads to needed jumps to clear high walls. Other routes could have powerups though. The next stage could be an on foot section where you need to collect a number keys to get through the level exit. or it could be a side on shoot em up section. where you just need to survive to the end. On reaching the end it time to climb a tree or building. These can be challenging as there are a number of enemies that are trying to knock you off and time can be tight. If you make it to the top it's time to face a boss! These are quite simple but don't hang around and aim to destroy as quick as possible. Beat the boss and now you have to face a bomb defusing puzzle. They start off fairly simple but can be a little head scratching later on.
Overall, its an interesting game, nicely presented and cartoony looking as Codemasters game do. It is however quite difficult that requires some replaying to learn where the powerups are which help greatly.
