Player's Review
A very short action platformer that almost got an US localization as Dream Probe before it was cancelled as a result of Renovation Products (a subsidiary of Telenet Japan) being acquired by Sega and absorbed afterwards. The plot is very basic, you control either Ryo or Maria in a mission to vanish evil from Earth and also to save a girl named Sayaka in the process.
This game really reminds of other titles such as El Viento, Run Saber or the Valis series, mainly in terms of gameplay. You press B to jump, X to attack, L/R (held down) to run and the A button lets you perform a special attack that is dependent on the character you chose, up to six in capacity and it can be refilled by collecting a purple gem. Speaking of gems, picking a blue gem improves your ranged attack, yellow gems improve your close combat attack, pink gems restore your health, green gems make you invincible for a short time (not available on Hard difficulty) and, finally, the red gem that maxes out all your attacks at least until you take two or three hits from any enemy.
Since there are literally no alterations in the plot nor ending by choosing either character, in the longplay I chose Ryo on Hard difficulty and for those who are wondering, the 'branched' path at 10:09 leads literally to the same sections so you are not missing out much. After completing the game, I show off Maria's attacks through the entire Stage 1 and on Normal so that I can show the green gem's shield, then I use the L+X combo for an instant game over.
