Player's Review
"Russia's top gun has crossed enemy lines with two MIG squadrons and enough firepower to blow the U.S. into the stratosphere. Board your Tomcat and give this crazy Commie a lesson in old-fashioned nuclear diplomacy. A full hour of real combat footage will have you wishing this was just a history class documentary. An FMV Arcade style flight shooter with multiple way for the game to play out based on your actions and should be slightly different each time you play, at least that's what the box tries to tell you. In reality if you don't do something you die so you pretty much have to stay on point and do everything it asks whilst killing quick to get through.
The screen has a few function allowing you to set a way point, select weapons and make use of the radio and camera when needed. They will flash to prompt you to press them. When enemy planes are darting about on screen, you have a few seconds to evade or take a shot at them, noting that you have limited ammo. If fired upon you have limited decoys to evade rockets. Some across require split second timing to react or you are toast! Failure to use the recon camera at the appropriate time can lead to the need to replay a mission.
Mission Four is an odd one. During the mission your wingman gets shot at. If you save them, then the mission continues and you go right onto mission five. If they are shot down, the mission switches to rescue and you have to fend off the enemies whilst the wingmen are rescued. Then mission four starts over again.
Overall, this is one of the better FMV games with how you interact with it as well as the midday tv action movie setting. I initially tried to play on Expert difficulty but the game seems to bug when faced with destroying the sam sites. All eight rockets to destroy the sam sites and another eight decoys and the game is still shooting at me,, I have no ammo left to react with so have had to play on Normal. The difference is mainly more to shoot at.
