Player's Review

"Earth has become a living hell. Trojen Inc. is deceiving people and luring them to their exotic colonies to fuel genetic experiments. But they have one problem. They lied to the future's most resourceful rebel, Tenka, and screwed with an already bad attitude."

A technically impressive game for the time on Ps1 hardware from Psygnosis, but not one thats aged so well. It looks great but doesn't play well. Classic digtial dpad controls with a single side step button and separate look up/down buttons for aiming. To kill enemies quickly, go for a head shot. The only problem is the auto aim keeps pulling you towards the center once you start firing making it a difficult shot, but on that needs to be done in a single round. It doesn't take long for the games difficulty to ramp up though with bigger enemies having rockets which can kill in two hits. This isn't so bad on its own but as soon as they enter hyper mode when there movement and firing speed doubles and firing at you before turning a corner.... its get annoying real quick.

The game has multiple weapons to collect but to save development costs, they are all part of the same gun you start with. Your weapon is upgraded by collecting the green cubes that humanoid enemies drop so its in your interest to kill em all and collect the loot. It takes a long time before you unlock the really good weapons like the laser gun that kills anything quickly. Before that you get heavy weapons such as mines and missile launchers. I don't show these much in the longplay as they are mostly useless and more likely to kill you than the enemy. And its no fun dying as you only get one life. Lose it and its back to the start of the level.

There are about 30 levels spread over 20 missions. You can save you game after completion of each level. It doesn't take long for the game to feel stale as every level gets played twice maybe with different enemies. just 10 missions would have been preferred to reusing level assets. The ending leaves a bad taste after all the effort getting there and to top it off it ends the same way as if you died and didn't continue.. You have to manually view the end game credits.

Overall its a nice game to visit, just to experience an early fps game on ps1, but the game it self really outstays its welcome with its ramping difficulty and reuse of levels.

03:34:20 - A quick look at Widescreen mode with demo. Turns out it just cuts off the top and bottom off for an overall lower resolution. Better off letting the tv squish the fullscreen mode.
