Fear Effect was released for the PlayStation in the year 2000 and published by Eidos.
The entire game is like playing inside a Full Motion Video with many of the scenes appearing alive with things happening in the background and you and your enemies moving around within it. It is an action adventure game taking you through 4 distinct locations. The video compression used in the game is not the best so there is plenty of visible macro blocking in the game. You may also want to adjust the aspect to 16:9 to achieve the normal 4:3 tv aspect.
The game is played on Hard mode in order to show the best ending to the game. What makes this mode hard is the appearance of more enemies than on normal and that ammo is much more limited meaning you can not waste a single bullet as you will end up in trouble later in the game. I do switch to the knife occasionally if I feel I can deal with the enemies without taking to much damage.
At the end of the game where you take on the final boss, you are given a choice affecting the game ending. The best one is shown first only available in hard mode followed by the two normal endings after the credits.
