Player's Review

Control super Robin Hood in this brilliant arcade game. Blast the onslaughting enemy fighters in your heroic attempt to rescue the lovely Maid Marian."

Super Robin Hood for the Spectrum 48k is a single load large level requiring you to navigate the various platforms and ladders in order to reach keys which unlock more platforms usually by activating moving platforms and lifts. Along the way there will be enemies in your path shooting arrows at you. In most cases you need to shoot back defeat them but there are a few that are unreachable and need to be dodged. Luckily they are plenty of health potions spread about and should be used sparingly as you never know if you will be back that way again in need of health. Your objective is to collect all the hearts and reach the prison chamber to rescue Maid Marian.

Super Robin Hood I believe was one of if not the first games from The Oliver Twins, firstly on the Amstrad CPC. It is quite a difficult game where you can be shot, take damage from falls and take super damage by stubbing your toe on something and can be quite frustrating with the collision detection. Note that you only get one life just to add to the pain.

Overall, it's not a bad release as far as budget game in 1987 go but it seems engineered to frustrate more than encouraging the player to explore and figure things out. Its easier to play through now with all the quality of life additions modern emus provide, but my eight year old self back in 1987 had no motivation to persevere with this.
