Player's Review
"ITALY 1990... A TRUE WORLD CUP SIMULATION!! It's ALL there... Throw-ins, Penalties, Free Kicks, Fouls, Corners! AND... FULL CIRCUIT TRAINING, 100m Sprints, Dribbling, Press ups, Sit ups, Squat Thrusts, Weights and more! THE GREATEST FOOTBALL EVENT in the WORLD!"
Based on '4 - Soccer Simulators' released on the 8Bit home Computers. Not that there are only two modes, 11-a-side and Soccer Skills in the 16Bit Atari/Amiga release missing street soccer and indoor soccer. Strangely the 4 logo is retained. and Soccer skills is shown as game 3.
The main game is 11-a-side outdoor soccer which has you play as part of the Codemasters mini league. I set the timer to 10 minute rounds which in hindsight is way too long and three matches are played to win the tournament. The second game is Soccer skills which has you training in a gym with joystick wiggling mechanics like most athletic games.
Overall, this is perhaps the worst football / soccer game ever made. Whilst not ugly, its plays terribly where you have huge kick power when playing down pitch, and barely any power, even when holding the button down until power bar full up pitch. The opposition is super easy as you take the ball from them or force a foul. Penalties don't really work as even taping the fire button, you kick with too much power kicking the ball over the goal. There is barely and sound effects either, really poor presentation. Even though it is a cheap budget release you still feel cheated out of your money.
