Player's Review
"Dragon Spirit - The smash hit coin-op arcade game! - It brings out the beast in you! Scorch through the skies in the most challenging flight of your life. Breath fire over hordes of attacking creatures from a prehistoric age. Have you got the fighting spirit? Have you got Dragon Spirit?"
Not a great conversion for 1989 but its still an enjoyable game for the most part. I think even the Spectrum version is better overall though even with its lack of colour. The blocky gfx and limited gameplay area lets it down. The thing that makes this version more difficult that it should be is the enemy projectiles move with a staggered frame rate making them hard to see and dodge. It's even more jarring when everything else moves at a solid rate. It often looks like shots coming at you are invisible.
Most annoying level is the canyon where you have limited movement. You are at the mercy of the C64s collision detection and not hitting the sides and watch out for the tail as you maneuver through tight bends. The game is lacking in presentation and music but would have been a good budget game.
