"Why be serious when there is so much fun in taking an alternative view of things? This ingenious but hilarious spoof will have you in stitches, not to mention the river, canal, sack...
You'll be racing in Naples, Boot Throwing at the Colosseum, Pole Climbing in Verona and Running up Walls in Venice! If you can still stand the pace, try your hand at Balancing Plates, Jumping Rivers, Pogo and Pillow Fighting. Recapture the very essence of competitive spirit in this comical collection of ALTERNATIVE WORLD GAMES!"
There are plenty of Athletic / Olympic sports games on the C64 but this one one tries to standout and be a bit different from tradition events. It's well presented in the style of Summer/Winter games from Epyx although slightly lacking overall presentation. I first encountered this game from a cover tape. I don't recall which one.
There are 8 events to play through in either single or multiplayer. I have to say its probably the most boring of all the sports games in 'single player' as shown here mostly due to lack of overall presentation. It doesn't feel very rewarding for winning. That aside, the game is well drawn and animated with each event having its own piece of music. Like all sports games, its the controls that make or break them. Thankfully no joystick or wrist breaking waggling to do here but you do have to very carefully and precisely time the joystick movements to what is happening on screen. This is made all the more difficult with a time limit and a cpu player that's playing to win! at least in the first event....
Overall, its a nice game but when you compare to the bigger games, this one feels very much like it should have been a budget release from the start. Definitely more enjoyable in multiplayer as you both have to deal with the controls.. but sadly I had to play alone for the video.
