Player's Review
"It's Gorilla Warfare! The Thrill of the Arcade game. You can feel an exciting tingle up and down your spine when you play DONKEY KONG at home, just like at an arcade. Your joystick guides Mario, the fearless carpenter, up the girders and elevators as he attempts to rescue his sweetheart from the clutches of Donkey Kong. All the thrills of the arcade game in a home computer version for one or two players."
Not much to say about this one. Very early game for the C64 only released on cartridge. I used the loading screen from the Mayday crack release just.... because, as the original didn't have one. This is the US release of the game which works fine on all region C64s.
Anyway, it is donkey Kong. everyone knows Donkey Kong! The C64 conversion seems pretty much complete to me and plays as well as the original. Only the chunky gfx really lets it down. Getting on and off landers can be frustrating at time maybe due to some slight collision detection issues. Jumping over the fire can sometimes get you, although that's usually due to them changing direction while you jump over them as apposed to a collision issue I think.
The game is endless as far as I know. I showed up to the point where the 4 levels repeat them selves over and over with level 1 in between. Difficulty does go up initially but doesn't seem to get higher after level 5. I could have gone on for longer if I wanted but after 20 mins its probably too long already.
