Player's Review
"Action fighter. That's what they call you; now's your big chance to prove them right. This time it's going to be reality tough. It must be - the President himself has placed the safety of the nation in your hands. It is up to you to meet the enemy head-to-head on their ground and defeat all in your path. To help you, you're in possession of the latest Top Secret transforming vehicle. Change from a high-powered bike into a fast car. By collecting further icons, you can transform once more into a jet-car. Collect sophisticated weapons to aid you in your mission. Shoot everything that moves. Destroy all in your path. Complete your mission and the President will be pleased. If not . . . ever considered emigrating?"
The conversion of Sega's action fighter was the first game developed by Core Design, today better known for the original Tomb Raider games. The game has some similarities with 1983s Spy Hunter where you are in a high speed chase to knockout bad guys, collect weapon upgrades and take on the larger bad guys. Instead of taking to the seas, you take to the skies and have to bomb land and sea targets.
Overall the C64 game is well done but some janky collision detection can frustrate as you having the game say you missed a target directly if front of you can lead to death! The rate of fire seems to affected by the amount of on screen action as well. You can play the driving section as fast or slow as you are comfortable with but there is a time limit to keep in mind.
