"Evolve .. Solve ... Equalise. Solve ... Evolve ... Equalise. It is only he with the genius skill, dexterity, I.Q. and reflex action who shall climb the evolutionary ladder and therefore be entitled to call himself .. The Equaliser .."

The Box art gives a very different impression of the game to what it actually is which is a bad Wonder Boy clone knock off. If you can imagine having to develop a conversion of Wonder Boy with the only source material being a couple of screenshots, this is the game you might get.

The game plays like Wonder Boy I guess, but each level is very short. You collect fruit to keep your energy bar up and the last item is usually the gateway to the next level. Enemies will move and respawn constantly so don't stand still. No other powerups or collectables. You can blast away right from the start. The music is a short loop that is somehow even more annoying than Wonder boy's original.

This could be Gavin Raeburn's first game (shown as Gax Game I) and it shows. His signature gameplay rule of no endings and constant score attack looping gameplay starts here and present in all his games much to my annoyance.

Overall this is a terrible game and you should play the actual conversion of Wonder Boy. Yet its still a weird C64 title with box art and marketing blurb that doesn't reflect the game at all. It's like the published made a box for they next game and the developer produced something totally different to what they were expecting. No time to change anything and published it as is.

I Play the game through with sfx enabled. When the game loops I lose remaining lives and then show a level with the music enabled. Imagine having to listen to that for entire time.

Also known as Toddler which appears to be an earlier version released by 'Alpha Omega'. It's music track is based on Jean-Michel Jarre Magnetic Fields Part 2. I'm not sure, but it also might be slightly more difficult with enemies attacking from behind. As a bonus I have attached Todder as a secondary download.
