Player's Review

"We've Been Watching You . . .
We know all about you. We even know your weaknesses. Weaknesses that have made you our thrall. To regain your freedom you must find the castle at the heart of the Labyrinth. If you are unable to break the spell within 13 hours, you will be lost forever. Which, for your information, is a very long time...

A key. Popcorn. A movie ticket. Everyday objects have a way of taking on a whole new meaning, once you enter the Labyrinth. Be prepared for anything. A wall of hands, talking door-knockers, or a friend in need. There will be goblins at every turn. Only one thing's for certain: we cannot be held responsible, if you get lost."

Labyrinth predates the scumm engine and is a first attempt at evolving the text based adventure with a word wheel so there is no need to guess what words would be accepted. The game recreates some scenes from the movie to good effect as you interact with the characters who can help or hinder you in solving the puzzles in the labyrinth.

This longplay mostly follows the walkthrough guide by Umbreon2000 with some minor variations due to random game elements as well as trying to show some dialogue by doing some alternate actions. You can choose a favourite colour at the start of the game which is used as a seed to decide how difficult the labyrinth will be to solve. I chose blue to make it easier to follow the guide.

It is possible to shave some time off and complete the game quicker with a slightly different route and avoiding items not needed to complete the game like multiple crystals, the helmet and potentially not rescuing ludo or utilising the fiery, but where's the fun in that. The helmet must be dropped before entering the secret chamber though as Jareth wont let you in to the upside down room with it on (he doesn't like the disguise). Waring it makes yo less noticeable t the guards but getting rid of it can be tricky as you are not allowed to litter. It can be dropped into the stench or thrown away at the goblin castle as in the longplay.
