"Sure Summer Games was great, but why stop there? Summer Games II will take you even farther with eight challenging, new events. You and up to seven other contestants can compete in your favourite individual event or go for it all in the grand competition. Some events, like cycling, rowing and fencing even challenge you with realistic head-to-head competition. First, decide which of the 18 different countries you're going to represent. Then, in true Olympic fashion, you will need the proper strategy and mental toughness, not just speed and agility to excel in each of the eight events. That's why we included a feature that lets you practice each event until you're ready for the real competition. Remember, it's not too early to get ready for 1988. With the right diet, proper training and lots of practice you just might make it. In the meantime, put on your sweatsuit, grab that joystick and let Summer Games II give you eight new ways to Go For The Gold!

'The Games' series from Epyx are probably amongst the most well known games on the C64 as every owner likely encountered them at some point through their numerous re-releases, cover tape releases and forms part of the games package that get included on modern day retro console releases. They may also be considered a marmite game in that whilst the game look great and are overall well presented, they can be very fiddly to play with some events having odd controls and timing is everything. Competing games, as fun as they were are not really in the same class and generally relied on frantic wiggle mechanics.

The game is best played as a group in multiplayer, actual competition. For the longplay however, it is just me. That makes it a little boring but prevents the video being dragged out to long. I don't play particularly well but I do try to get a reasonable score. The controls and input latency are what I'm mostly up against. In each events, I do try to show some fails where extra attempts are available.

A notable step up from the previous game. Great presentation in the form of both opening and closing ceremonies and the last time we have a closing ceremony for some reason. We get some tunes before each event and some great artwork all-round. It's even possible to include events from the previous game into the roster. That said, controlling some of the events has got more complicated making for some frustrating rounds. Fencing in particular just doesnt seem to control right and horse racing is best turning the controller ninety degrees.
