Player's Review
"Absolutely Brilliant! The fastest newest form of aqua-sport Fantastically realistic and infuriatingly addictive, power drifting, and aqua speed jumps. Carve your friends up over 16 exciting championship circuits!"
A cutdown budget re-release of Jet Bike Simulator released a year prior. This is another odd one like BMX Racers two. There are only two courses this time split into two difficulty levels (one on each side of the tape). Firstly you get the Lake levels on the easy (Standard) difficulty level which shows you the time limit. On the second side, the Hard (Expert) levels taking place at the docs. The only real difference is the tighter time limits although it feels more difficult that even the expert levels of Jet Ski Sim. Other differences of this version are the new title screen and the loss of speech samples.
Much like previous top down racers except this time on a jet ski power sliding on the water. You compete against the clock across eight courses to become the ultimate winner. This is for one or two players with four competitors total made up by the cpu. In this game you only have to cross the line in the top three. Coming in last is game over. The time limit is not an issue as its only a problem id you are lagging behind in forth place which is going to end you anyway.
The controls reasonably well but the C64 game has major problems with collision detection like the level gfx are not quite aligned with the course restrictions. Whilst you get two difficulty options which are strangely two different builds of the game instead of a simple in game toggle, the only notable difference between them is the time limits and slightly different wording in the ending. The cpu opponents are relentless seemingly operating a far superior jet bike making few mistakes.
Overall, I don't really like this game much. It's doesnt play quite as well as the spectrum game due to collision issues and its not much fun to play with relentless cpu players, maybe better in multiplayer. The loss of speech samples in this version can be an issue as there is no Get ready before a race starts. as soon as the screen opens hold fire to accelerate immediately!
00:00:00 Easy Lake levels
00:07:45 Hard Dock levels
