Player's Review
"Armed with a MAGNUM take to the streets in your FERRARI F40 collect extra turbos, injection systems, oil cannons, spray glass, power steering, body kits and more! You are no longer a normal cop you are the elite in this breath-taking law enforcement game."
"YOU are DON FERRARI. The Mayor of MIAMI has granted you 48 HOURS of IMMUNITY from PROSECUTION. The only condition is that you clean up thestreets of the SCUM they call CRIMINALS. It must be done, BYFAIR MEANS OR FOUL. The choice is YOURS. Pick up the POWER UPS to help you DESTROY the LOWLIFE on the streets. EQUIP your car with. SUPER SPEED, ARMOUR, WHEELBLADES and MUCH MORE... There's only one problem, it's UNDERCOVER, so be careful that you are not ARRESTED by your OWN MEN."
The game features four levels and you jub is to destroy the gang members in the red cars. Eventually the boss will show up in a yellow car which you need to track down and destroy before leaving the level. You have limited armour multiple lives and you may need them as the driving is pretty terrible. Even if you can avoid crashing as you drive around, the civilian population will happily take you out if you happen to be in the way. Gang members are usually on a set route which you can monitor and take out cars as they appear.
There is also a time limit and destroying civilian and police cars will reduce the available time. If it hits zero, it is game over as you are arrested. Gang cars also drop money when destroyed which can be taken to the shop in the parking lot and traded for weapons, armour or a complete repair. Picking up those coins however can be a chore in it self.
Overall, there seems to be a problem getting Miami vice playable on a commodore64. Ocean had a shot at it resulting in an unplayable driving game. Now Codemasters has had a go taking an already budget game and stripping it down some more for a super budget game. The cotrols are not so great and you car can feal floaty as well as being at the mercy of collision detection. It does look and play better but its still a bad game overall but you can have some fun with it for a few minutes.
