Player's Review

"Whipped up by a time warp and plonked down in the present day. Join Big Nose the caveman in his plight to rescue his animal friends. Beat off the builders, bash the zoo keepers and save the day. Totally cavetastic fun!"

A short budget platform adventure that's recognisably Codemasters. The game is split into three levels of ladder climbing, stone throwing and jumping action. Climb around, find the keys and unlock the cages holding the animals, two on each level. The games moves smoothly but can feel a little over sensitive especially jumping off the ladders. The enemies are also move fluidly and quickly and it's all too easy to run into them.

Overall, it's a nice little platformer with the biggest challenge coming from the usual C64 collision detection being offset from the gfx. The levels are small and easy to memorise and not difficult if you take your time. Jumping too much could cause you to hit an enemy above, and that's not good. Also avoiding poison bottles that leave you momentarily paralysed and beer that causes controls to reverse.

In the middle of level two there is an extra life but it's stuffed between deadly skulls. Collecting it by falling from above awards the life but there is no way out and losing a life spawn you right back there leading to game over. The game shares much of it's traits with an earlier title, Tarzan Goes Ape! and unforgivingly it even uses the exact same music.
