Player's Review
"Clean up the CRIME-RIDDEN Manhattan docks. Fight off thugs wielding FLICK- KNIVES, IRON BARS, BASEBALL BATS and worse! Tackle muggers, homicidal maniacs, and PSYCHOPATHS."
The second game in the Freddy Hardest series Dinamic self published the game as Freddy Hardest in Manhatten in spain. Codemasters renamed it to The Guardian Angel for whatever reason where they published it.
The game is a sideways brawler requiring you to fight your way through five levels with the fifth being a single boss enemy that in this version at least is no more challenging to beat than any other enemy. In the main levels you will face a simple enemy that dies in one hit and two toughguys requiring four kicks to the face. All the while enemies behind get closer ready to tare you apart. You can fight them but then enemies from the front will close in and finish you if the annoying chainsaw sound hasn't made you turn the game off first. Rats must be crouch kicked else they bite your toes causing instant death from rabies. If you just keep forcing yourself to the right there should be enough lives to cover the journey but it's no fun at all.
Overall, this is a very lazy and sloppy port of the spectrum game and should have lead to Dinamics closure and codemasters should never work with them again. The game can be annoyingly difficult with how the enemies close in from both sides. You do regain energy standing still but the game doesnt really give you any chance to do that. The slow jerky movement on a blue background is intolerable and looks bad even compared with plain white background of the spectrum game although even that version had splashes of colour. The only good thing about this game is it's title screen and even that's not worth the 2.99 asking price.
