Player's Review
"Trogan the Diabolical, a vile monstrosity of blackness, has risen and his army of evil minions forces are swarming across the land! For Stryker, the warlock, the Crypt of Trogan awaits!"
For a C64 game released in 1992, this looks very messy with odd colour choices and poor details but hopefully the gameplay stands up in this £3.99 budget release.
The game map is quite large and there plenty to explore and bonuses to collect if you are playing for score. While it is one giant level, it is split into five sections(levels) separate by end of level bosses. Along the way there are many enemies to kill and weapons, potions and bonuses to collect. Many of the potions can have negative effects if hit before collecting which is all to easy to do accidently. Balloons can be hit to pump them up for max bonus but will pop if over pumped.
You start with five lives and collect another after defeating each boss. Each life is kept up by energy which you can collect. Some enemies are deadlier than others saping more energy and it may be best to just ignore them and get on to the next screen. Before facing each boss there is usually a suitable weapon nearby that you will likely need to defeat it. The game throws a curve ball at the final boss if you miss the weapon and there is no way back to try and get it. To top it off there is a weapon drop icon right in front of the screen exit that will ruin your day if collected. It auto appears when you reach the final platform or kill the enemy frogs before it.
Overall, it is an alright platform game but it is pretty terrible to look at. Collision detection is actually ok but jumping is not as straight forward as it should be making long jumps annoyingly difficult when you really need them.
The longplay goes through the firstly with music. After game completion a quick messy run with sfx just to show it as well as game over.
