Player's Review
"The first real simulation of the world famous game-it's all there... conversions, touch- backs, line-outs, drop-kicks, real tackling, scrum-downs, throw-ins and all the rest..."
I don't know much about Rugby except its kind of like American Football without the body armour and I know even less about that. I'm not sure how accurate the game is but even not knowing anything about it, the game it self isn't to bad. Once the game is loaded you have a few choices of a single one player game by default playing as France vs England (Which seems an odd choice for default settings). You can change team names and colours in the options. There is also a League mode with up to eight teams but this mode is for upto eight real players to control a team and play against each other with I think one computer player.
Before starting a match you get to choose a player placement strategy. As I have no clue what is a good or bad one I stick to the default starting one. The match is played in two half's with both teams trying to get the ball across the goal line. Walking the ball across the line awards a try where you can try to kick the ball through the posts. Fail and the opposing team gets the ball. Win by getting close to the goal, pressing and hold fire when the arrow is aimed correctly and let go when the power meter is where you want it. Don't let it max out or instant fail.
On the pitch, it can all get a bit confusing with all the players bunching up. You press fire to select nearest player to the ball and once you have it you can pass the ball to other players or walk it as far as you can towards the opponents goal. You may get intoa situation where the opponents bunch up and force you into a scrum situation. Here you need to wiggle left/right as fast as you can and beat the opposing team to have control of the ball but it's not always helpful. At any point when you have the ball you can hold fire to charge your long kick. Precise timing is needed for the best shot. If you let it max out you will trip over the ball. When the power is where you want it let go of fire and then the red bar is the direction. Press fire when it is where you want it, usually directly or near the centre else the ball could fly off into the side-lines and give the opponent a throw in.
Overall, there is not much in the way of presentation. You are presented with a pitch to play on and a goal view which looks nice when kicking towards the goal and it is where the score is displayed. There's not much else than that. It's a nice enough game and better with multiple players. At the end of the video I set up a league to show how it looks but there is nothing extra to show apart from team colours so left it there.
