Update 01.12.2012 Added: part 27 Omega DLC
Update 25.03.2013 Added: part 28 Citadel DLC

As a five year Mass Effect veteran, Mass Effect 3 is a welcome homecoming, a satisfying conclusion, and a minor disappointment. The game mechanics continue to streamline gameplay from the first two games, taking some of the best bits of both 1 & 2 and refining them further. 3's gameplay definitely favors 2's efficiency over 1's complexity, but reintroduces some customization elements. The quest log and inventory systems could be more intuitive, but overall gameplay is top notch.

The main fault of this game is the feeling that many of your decisions didn't matter as much as Bioware had promised. I will say that most decisions are adressed, but not in the way that I had expected. Throughout the game you are trying to aquire "war assets" which at face value are "points" that you get from recruiting the different races to your cause. So for example *SPOILERS* I saved the Citadel Council in Mass Effect 1. It was said that the human fleets lost many ships, and were less strong. In Mass Effect 3 all that changed was instead of me getting 100 points for the fifth fleet, I got 60 because many ships were destroyed. (Note: Those were not exact scores just an example.)
DLC "From Ashes" (which was released on launch day) allowed you to add Javik, a Prothean, to your squad as a playable character. Adding additional squadmates is nothing new, ME2 had Zaeed and Kasumi Goto as DLC characters, but in the grand scheme of things they weren't imperative to the overall story of ME2 and if you didn't download them, you weren't missing out on anything crucial to the story other than a little extra backstory to some unimportant factions in the game. However with Javik, the moment he is added to your team, it is obvious that his character contributes greatly to the overall game experience, and is a rather important piece of the plot, literally turning what the player and the characters think of the extinct Prothean race on its head.
Now I wasnt to briefly touch on the ending. When I played the ending for the first time, I was left somewhat disappointed like many other people felt. However I was not completely enraged. While the ending that I received was not great by any definition of the word, I looked past it and saw that Mass Effect 3 as a whole was incredible.
