Player's Review

"4.5 billion years have passed since the earth's creation. Many dominators have ruled in all their glory. But Time, their greatest enemy, ultimately defeated their reign. And now a Dominator's reign begins ... Rygar, the Legendary Warrior! A warrior who respects one code and one code alone, the code of combat. Antagonistic gladiators, reptiles, mammals, monsters, creatures of magic ... come one, come all, come to meet the might of the fearless Rygar and in the words of the immortal warrior, LET'S FIGHT!!!"

Not the greatest arcade conversion on the C64 but its ok. If you were asked to create rygar based on a single screenshot of the original game, this is what you might expect to get. with only 16 levels most of the original arcade levels are missing. Even the final boss is missing but the game does actually have an ending .. I know right!

The sprites are small and it can be heard to see the enemies on screen as they blend with some of the backgrounds. The game is very challenging as the enemies can move quickly across the screen right into you. If you have collected the various powerups from the stones then you become quite powerful, able to kill all enemies in a single hit by throwing your shield or jumping on them. The downside to this is that your control becomes hampered in that you can move in the air and fire at the same time as well as being locked in the throwing move until the shield returns leaving you unable to move leaving you open to other attacks.

Overall, the C64 game is ok but i back when I was playing these game all the time I much preferred the spectrum game with its larger more detailed sprites although no less chaotic with plenty on screen enemies constantly trying to kill you.
