""Oh, good! More brain donors."

Actually, Dave and his friends have come to rescue Sandy before she donates her brains to Dr. Fred. And you are the brains behind their efforts to solve the many mysteries of Maniac Mansion...

What really happened when that meteor landed 20 years ago?
How did it change Dr. Fred, Nurse Edna, and Weird Ed?
What's a Green Tentacle and how do you feed it?
Why is there a chainsaw in the kitchen?
Why is there a nuclear reactor in the basement?
How does Razor get her hair to stand up like that?
Why does Dr. Fred keep going, "Heh, heh, heh..."?

Explore room after room. Collect weird stuff. Laugh out loud. Feel a little spooky.
Choose your own reckless rescue trio from seven unlikely volunteers.
Five exciting ways to unravel the mystery. Hundreds of hilarious ways to guess wrong!
No typing ever! Point 'n' click to select characters, objects, and actions."

A highly transformative, influential and generational leap in in the adventure game genre and it started on the Commodore64. First, there were text adventures. Then there was the action/text adventure hybrid and now the full point and click adventure with no typing required. While there has always been scope for alternate routes to the end, Lucas film brings an adventure with multiple routes through the use of different characters, each with different abilities and puzzles to solve. Not only that but different endings depending on character and how you choose to tackle the final puzzle. This all leads to replay value that few if any adventure games before it could provide.

The mansion is a lively place with characters moving around in it who also perceive time and have their own events going on. This means That as the player, you can be waiting on certain events to happen before you can proceed. Most notable in this longplay at the end of the game. If you run into one of the game characters you will likely be thrown in the dungeon but there is always a possibility to escape and soldier on. However, there are events in the game that can kill you and if all three rescuers are killed, its game over. There are a few ways to get everyone killed but there are also a few dead ends if you accidently use an item before you are supposed to and of course the game wont tell you this.

The longplay shows one possible route through the game with Bernard and Wendy. Some puzzles have multiple solutions so if one goes wrong, there is a chance to try another way. Not all of my decisions are optimal and I will often show the long way around of doing things as well as collecting items not really needed but still show what they do. A few mistakes like forgetting where the other characters are cost some time having to walk all round the house and some time could have been saved by allowing myself to get captured to be at the bottom of the house. At the end of the video I will show a couple of other endings that I can achieve with the characters chosen. It would take multiple full plays to show everything possible. Also note that their are no developer credits at the end of the game.

Overall a fantastic C64 game and surprising that there was only one other like it using this engine. No other developer cared to try and push the C64 graphic point and click adventure format. This longplay mainly follows the guide by 'ManiacMansionFan' with minor deviations and the time stamps will help to follow it along. Easyflash dual game cart released by OnSlaught 2011 used for ease of recording and high speed loading and bug fixes.
