"BATMAN THE MOVIE OF THE DECADE IS NOW THE GAME OF THE YEAR!
Just when you thought you'd heard the last of his heinous cackling, THE JOKER is back in an all new action- adventure, based on the blockbuster movie - BATMAN. As the DARK KNIGHT," only you can determine how the plot will unfold as you try to save GOTHAM CITY from certain doom. Even with the BAT- WING and all your wonderful toys, THE JOKER may just rewrite your script. So, rev up the BATMOBILE and get ready for the chase of your life."
Being a pc owner in the late eighties was tough watching all the great games coming out on the Atari St / Amiga and even C64 and the PC being made to look obsolete and conversion like Batman the movie do nothing to secure your faith in the platform. You might get some nice 256c vga gfx every now and again but pc speaker being the defacto audio standard made even spectrum owner point and laugh at you. But just wait for 1992 to roll around!
Batman the movie looks and plays mostly like the Atari St game including the extra images not in the Amiga game. The gameplay is pretty slow however and there can be some annoyances with enemies randomly spawning in and shooting from angles you cant guard against. The gfx are alright in vga mode but clearly missing colours especially on the belt, not sure how they could have got that so wrong. PC speaker is the only audio option not even taking advantage of Tandy features so you al you get is buzzing and blips. Overall a tragic port and might have been the trigger for finally throwing out that pc youve been trying to keep relevant for last 1five years with upgrades and joining the Amiga crowd with the Batman pack.
The controls can feel unresponsive at times but mostly ok. In the car driving stage the collision detection is way off and very annoying. The chemical research level was over pretty quick, didn't expect to find first go. The Balloon cutting level was ok and both platform levels only real problem was the already mentioned enemy spawning. What was with that sudden and lack lustre ending though. Overall a shoddy port that not making best use of the hardware and exists just to bring in a few quid.
