Player's Review

"The No. 1 arcade game that ruled the Earth is unleashed! Features the first ever full stop-motion animation, a colossal fighting engine for incredible hit combos and a massive number of normal moves, special moves and spectacular fatalities. One mother hubbard of a game!

This PC conversion of the original Atari arcade game might be one of the better made fighting games for the PC being close to the original in terms of content as well gameplay, even having an annoying four button (Although two can be selected) for pulling off special move combinations .. fun. Don't expect to see any killer combos and move linking, I'm not that good and mostly button mashing my way to victory whilst trying to pull off some known special combinations. Game is being played on a 486/100 16mb with GUS sound for music and SB16 for SFX (they are strangely low volume on the gus). This is might be making the game too fast or we can call it Hyper Fighting edition.

This is another fighting game with digitised characters which shares some similarities to the Mortal Kombat games. You can playthrough as P1 or P2 depending on the side of the screen you want to play and mimics the arcades controls and button combinations. At the end of each match (not round) you get to pull off one of three fatality moves again requiring a specific button and move combination. Try as I might, I just cant chain any moves together in single player as the opponent is constantly blocking and a successful hit pushes you away. I just want to see if the lightning can be triggered. (4 hit combo plus at least 35% damage) You have to wait until I get to Blizzard at the end of the video to see some basic but rewarding combos Although I do manage a couple of named combos at the end with Talon.

The longplay first goes through the game on the toughest difficulty mode. The cpu player blocks a lot and can seemingly override your moves. After completing I go through the other characters playing in one round mode at normal difficulty to get through a bit quicker. After single player is done with, I try some two player in an effort to show the bowling and volleyball mini games and close the video with the credits which can be show with a button combination (Left on p1 and right on p2 together) or wait for it to appear in attract mode.

Overall, this is a good conversion of a not so great arcade game with it's limited content. Most notable difference is the PC game being in low res vga. Content wise the game seems to be all there. Bowling, Volleyball and cows falling during sudden death which was quite tricky to get the timing right. Normally bricks would fall on this stage (Ruins), meteors on Tomb and ice on the cliff. I wasn't able to find any known working combinations to activate a cheat menu if one exists in this version so unable to experiment with more options to see if there is more content like with the mega-drive game.

Note: The SoundBlaster Audio gets distorted on some levels. It appears quite randomly and I was unable to avoid it without quitting and reloading. Maybe I stubbled upon a Mega drive audio sample emulation in game.
