PROJECT-X
Experience hard-hitting shoot'em-up action in this stunning arcade-quality game from the same people that brought you ALIEN BREED SPECIAL EDITION... Incredible graphics, awesome speech/sound-fx and a COIN-OP feel, all combine to make PROJECT-X a true Amiga classic!
F17 CHALLENGE
Take Pole Position at the front of the grid in this exciting arcade style race-game! Race your way through sixteen championship circuits around the world and aim to be the F17 Champion.
Fast moving graphics together with excellent gameplay make F17 Challenge the game to be reckoned with!
Project X - Special Edition '93 combined with F17 Challenge CD Edition, both original Amiga floppy based games and take no advantage of the CD32 hardware other then faster loading in the case of Project X. F17 seems to take forever loading tracks still.
Worth noting that what might be an emulation issue is that the F17 game crashes during loading after the intro screen unless you insert the disc after the boot animation. If you put the disc in then turn on, the game wont load. This happens with both v1 and v2 editions, a memory issue I guess. I have trimmed the level loading in F17 as they take ages to load.
I have previously recorded the Amiga 500 version of F17 which plays through the championship in Normal mode at Pro difficulty. For this run I am playing in Arcade mode consisting of only three laps per track with the skill level auto adjusting as you progress. The game is still too easy though with the opposition cars moving so slowly and I did confirm this by looking at some old magazine reviews that stated that the reviewer also found the game too easy. The game looks and controls great but it was a real chore to playthrough with no weather variation in arcade mode and the opposition not even trying. To top it off, the game crashed at the end screen unable to go back to the menus.
Project X has also been played multiple times so here is another go round for this compilation. In a previous recording I chose the Hyperion craft. This time I will take the Crux II. Again auto fire is disabled so I can utilise the beam charge weapon. The game takes place across five levels with a couple of bonus stages in between which have you flying at hyper speed through a tunnel with the aim of picking up six collectables and making it to the end for an extra life.
Overall, this is a no frills compilation for the CD32 owner. If this is the console you had, then this was likely the only way you would be able to play these games if you wanted to but I think I would be looking for games that actually take some advantage of the system. Team 17 did republish most of their game library on the cd32 though and in some small way they may have seen it as a way to curb piracy as there were no home cd burners at the time.
