Player's Review

Released in 2010, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I was Sega's attempt to bring Sonic back to his roots after a couple of fumbles with the previous games. Beginning life as originally a mobile phone game, Sega decided to make it the official fourth game in the classic series, making it multi-platform in the process. The story is as simple as it gets. Stop Dr. Eggman from carrying out his heinous scheme whatever it might be. Seems like he just wants to take out Sonic and rule the world, so it's up to Sonic to stop him.

For this game, I complete the story and every single stage just once. The stages contain multiple pathways for the explorative types who master the control and mechanics. I just go through the stages as best I can, relying mostly on memory for the alternate paths. They're just there for replay value. I also complete all 7 special stages and unlock Super Sonic. Although this time, I try not to abuse it. You don't even get enough rings for the boss fights, which are separate stages, to use it. Collecting the chaos emeralds does unlock a teaser for the next episode.

One more editor's note. After special stage 7, my game crashed trying to display the "Super Sonic Unlocked" message. So that's why there's a jump cut there.
