I didn't know that the screening process for access was so flimsy.

Me neither. Me and Ironclaw gave our trust in a couple of people, who clearly must have gone haywire with the sharing of the account to others.

I'd wondered why uncharacteristically modern games were being uploaded. I knew that multiple users used the same account, but I didn't know that the screening process for access was so flimsy.

All movies from February 26, 2012 1:59 PM up to now was removed (20 days or something)... about 60-80 movies. Will take a while to re-upload them all.

Do you know the time-frame in which the videos were deleted?

To be fair, Tsunao said it was a theory of hers, not something she thought was factual.

Re: About the deletion of videos on Cubex55
Me and Ironclaw have NOTHING to do with this, so don't accuse us of anything. I woke up this morning to see 2+ weeks of videos are gone, not just non-Amiga ones.

Tsunao, where have you EVER read we were gonna make Cubex55 an Amiga longplay channel only? We have never said that. What I did say yesterday was that if it WAS possible to MOVE videos from one account to another, we would move all Amiga videos to a new one.

This is what happens when too many people have access to the same account. I'm not quite sure how many, Schlauchi is the one who probably distibutes the access to people, and maybe some of those he gave access to have done the same, so who knows how many that might have access now. And I'm sure more than one of them have viruses, spyware and #OOPS# on their computers, and they probably store their password in the browser or on a note or in a document for others to see if they ever went there. And some of those with access probably share their computer with others.

This is unacceptable!

We changed the password and will redistribute access to those who REALLY needs it, like uploaders. Instead of the 10-20+ we have now, around 4 is enough - 2 from RAG and 2 from WoL.

Re: A new person shall begin
Actually, according to JonL, if the width or height are less than 400 pixels, it needs to be doubled. If the width or height are at least 400 pixels, then it does not need to be doubled.

Use something like this:

pointresize(width*2,height*2) # Double-sizes the video (320x200 -> 640x400)

Re: A new person shall begin
As long as you use a good codec (no problem if you use FRAPS) and follow guidelines, you will be okay. Quality is kinda important.

Guideline in a nutshell:
-less than...width less than 480(?), use pointresize (use this on handheld games and older systems like NES and SNES)
-upload a text file.
To make some of our lives (well, mines at least) easier:
For size: assuming you are using Windows: Right-click -> Properties. Use "Size". Not "size on Disk" or the size seen when you hover over a file. Copy the kazillion numbers. If it is something like 2,438,694,385 bytes, copy it all (I prefer putting in with commas and without commas. No commas = faster fill in my opinion). It makes filling out the download page faster and allow us (well, me and JonL...I think. :3) to know if a file is done uploading on FTP. For Time, put it in hh:mm:ss format, not 1 hour 23 minutes. Again, it speeds up the filling (I copy from a text file.)

Requirement thread
Don't worry, it really isn't that strict. :3

Pro tip for FTP:
assuming you are using FileZilla:
Transfer -> Default File Exists action
Change Upload's option to "Resume file transfer". Continue to upload when connection stops all of a sudden so you won't have to keep uploading the same file a kazillion times.

Re: A new person shall begin
I now have the registered version of fraps. First I need a good computer to record on then I need the information for files necessary for a longplay. I got the files. I'm a beginner longplayer so I probably won't be surprised I a longplay is rejected.

Re: [Solved] Looking for backup ftp space
I have the 2 first parts.

I told you I couldn't download the 3rd one before the ftp went down.
That means if Raidennn puts it back up I'll be able to download the 3rd file. Provided your upload is not corrupt like the first one was, because otherwise we're screwed.

You should always keep files until they are published. Buy an external hard drive or something. They're not that expensive, right?

Re: [Solved] Looking for backup ftp space
What about videos that were uploaded on the old FTP, my first three parts of the Rise of the Argonauts for example, I don't have them anymore on my PC, should I continue to play that game or to start something else? Because I don't feel like playing it from the beginning again Smile

Re: [Solved] Looking for backup ftp space
Wow! That was fast!

I think we can all give a (gentle) pat on the back to our friend Connor here, who granted us access to his FTP server. Thanks a lot!

Backup server: ftp://cassiopeia.solit.se
User: upload
Password: upload

Our upload page has also been updated with the new information.

Now I know there's quite some backlog that's been piling up, but before you all start uploading your longplays at full speed, bringing the server to its knees, keep in mind that we will only start reviewing your submissions on monday, so take your time, you've got all week-end.
If the upload speed drops, just pause and restart later. Let's be nice and try not to make Connor regret his bold move.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Solved] Looking for backup ftp space
Howdy fellow longplayers and viewers!

Our current ftp server is down.
Which means we are dead in the water. People cannot submit new longplays anymore (except for admins who directly publish their own stuff).

While I have no doubt our friend Raidennn will be able to fix the issue with his ftp server, it clearly shows how heavily we depend on a public ftp space to let people contribute to our community.

That means we should find a backup solution, so that we can switch to plan B when the need arises.

What we are looking for is a download and upload space with at least 50 GB of storage and no daily or monthly bandwidth limit. Two different account types would be useful too (one for the uploaders, one for the admins). A temporary solution would be nice, but a long term, reliable solution is what we aim at.

We have the feeling that public sharing services like Mediafire, Rapidshare or Megaupload are not fit for this usage, because they all have bandwidth limits.

If you happen to be able to offer us this service, please contact us by PM or on our IRC channel (any admin will do, ScHlAuChi, Geekmeister, T-0815, Ironclaw, RickyC, Tsunao or me).

Thanks in advance.

Re: Urgent! Site looking for a new owner
Because there is only a few days left until shutdown lower I the price to 970 €. Or 900 € without rights to the Mario flash game). I paid for that flash game, so I want some money back for it. But remember, the game is a good way to get more visitors to site Smile

Keep in mind, buying the site you will also get the YouTube account. That means you can upload longer videos than 10 minutes!

But I have one request on this. The buyer must promise to keep all existing longplays + Still let me have access to it so I can upload longplays for Recorded Amiga Games.

Ps. I will not lower the price further!

Re: Urgent! Site looking for a new owner
What I have to say now is something you don't want to hear.

From next month (1 st Mars) will I no longer continue to maintenance this site. The reason is lack of time and interest.

Therefore I'm looking for someone to take over the project (it would be a shame if the site would die)

More and more people finding out about our site. Every month we hit a new record of unique vistors.

I don't want to give it away for "free". As it would be nice to get something back for all hard work and hours spent. I don't lie if i say i spent 1000 hours!

I have thinking about € 1000. I know that is high for one person. But for that price, the new owner got a lot! (send me a message and i tell more).

Anyone can take over the site. You don't need any progamming skills. All you need is a computer with at least 1 Ghz processor and 512 Mb ram. Running Windows, Linux, or MacOS. A internet connection with a upstream of 2 Mbps should be enough as long you don't plan to host any lp's yourself. If you are new to this, then I will of course help with the setup.

Why have I not said anything about this earlier? Well, I have. I did already for 1.5 years ago when the site was almost new. At this time there where people who was interested. But for some reason I never replied on these letters.

Ps. If nobody wants to take over the site in its current state. And instead want to start over from scratch with a new longplay site. Then I will be more than happy to forward all traffic from World of Longplays to this new site.

Well Sega have got some new Racing Game due out and The guy is one of the characters in the game, I can imagine that has probably generated some talks. I wanted to like Shenmue II but I just found it hard near the beginning of the game to earn money (it also doesn't help that I suck at games.) The series was always intended as a trilogy so maybe they should go back to it, I felt like the Yakuza games were the spiritual successor to Shenmue and those were both great, so Shenmue is deifnitely owed a 3rd tiem around.
