Re: An issue with AVI dumping in Bizhawk
This might be an issue because the emulator is running 60fps where the game only does 30fps and these screen tearings happen on the in between frames

Re: An issue with AVI dumping in Bizhawk
At this moment yes, it's first game, in which I noticed that. When I recorded my previous PS1 longplays by using Bizhawk, I have not seen anything like this. Maybe it's emulation problem. I know, that Bizhawk uses Mednafen core to emulate PlayStation, but I didn't find compatibility list for Mednafen.

Re: An issue with AVI dumping in Bizhawk
Hi, everyone!

Now I'm working on my PS1 longplay of "V.I.P.".

After I recorded AVI file, I noticed tearing in the video (it happens, when characters are moving). Here is a screenshot:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rSBQ...sp=sharing

I'm using Bizhawk (version 2.2.1) for recording movies and dumping. On the screenshot below you can see my sync settings.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yWfw...sp=sharing

When I'm dumping AVI file I disable Alternate Sync. On TASVideos I found some tips for AVI dumping in Bizhawk: "Enable Alternate Sync: File -> AVI/WAV -> Config and Record AVI/WAV. If the version of BizHawk is pre-2.5 Alternate Sync must only be enabled for PAL titles." I play NTSC-U version of the game.

May be I'm doing something wrong? Or it's normal for some PS1 games. I know, that some people have more experience in recording PS1 longplays. I would be glad, if some one give me advice about that. I don't want to my longplay will be rejected.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Re: Encoding 4K Longplays
While we have new consoles that output to 4K for games, specifically all PS5 and Xbox Series X games being recorded for longplays and PC games that are available for those consoles should also be recorded in 4K. This thread isn't for helping to record or edit the footage, but to get the best encoding for them since 4K encoding is not something that can be handled on just any old PC. Assuming you have your footage already edited from editing software and fully rendered and ready to be encoded, currently the best settings for encoding are:
Handbrake vs MeGUI

If you are going to use MeGUI for 4K encoding it is rather simple as long as you already know how to use MeGUI and have used it with x.264 encoding before. For 4K longplays we will need to require x.265 as the encoder instead so here are the settings I recommend:
i.imgur.com/35Cc813.png
However using MeGUI for CPU encoding is rather slow, even if you have the best CPU out there it won't take full advantage of it, so there is also Handbrake. Handbrake isn't recommended for regular 1080p longplays or lower as the quality from MeGUI for x.264 is still the best option but for 4K it is a different story.

Now I have to say that for 4K longplays being encoded with Handbrake it is REQUIRED that you have an NVIDIA RTX graphics card, either the 20 or 30 series are good enough at the time of making this post so anything that comes out after these cards should work too. I don't have experience with AMD graphics cards, however, since they don't have the same hardware encoder as NVIDIA RTX cards do.

So for Handbrake encoding my recommended settings are:
i.imgur.com/axqar7X.png

and make sure audio settings are set to AAC with a bitrate of 192
i.imgur.com/DBZNRPU.png

As of right now these are the best ways to encode 4K longplays and since Handbrake uses the hardware built into the RTX NVIDIA graphics cards it uses them a lot more effectively than just CPU encoding with MeGUI, so when encoding a 4K longplay that is say 10 hours long MeGUI would take days or weeks to encode the 4K footage to x.265 where Handbrake would take 20 hours or less for the same 60fps 4K footage.

Well, OK. But can I use another lossless codec? For example, Lagarith or H264 (Lossless profile)? What's your PC specs?

Re: Question about recording longplays
you need to record games in 60fps for longplays unless the game you record is forced in 30fps

OMG... I think, I will record in 1080p 30fps. Anyone tested this codec (H264 High 4:4:4 lossless) for lossless recording? - https://www.bandicam.com/best-codec-for-recording-software/
Can I use it instead YV12?

I've got well over 8TB of SSD storage specifically for recording games, so recording over 1TB of footage is no problem

Re: Question about recording longplays
Well, I have like 6TB of free space on my PC. And you can of course have much much more. Or if you run out of space, you can encode what you have and continue after that.

I mean, it's really big, file size over 1TB, I think.

Re: Question about recording longplays
If you look RE2 longplay page on this site (https://longplays.org/infusions/longplays/longplays.php?cat_id=2&longplay_id=9419), you will notice, that total duration is almost 16 hours. I could be wrong, but I don't think, that Spazbo4 recorded this longplay in one shot.

Besides, there are lot of really loooooongplays on the site. Off course longplayer doesn't play whole game without relaxation.

You can record gameplay partially, then join all parts in VirtualDub, Sony Vegas or MeGUI (using avs script). Loading screens may be used for joining separated parts. The objective is creating video of full (as posible) playthrough as if it was be played in one session, but you shouldn't play the game incessantly.

Sorry for stupid question but how this video was recorded? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqKl1yqnmZg
Duration is 10 hour. I think this is not a Fraps.

Also can you help me what program to use to record ~5-hours longplay? The last time I used Fraps, file size was 100GB (720p 60fps) but what if I want to record more than 1 hour?

Re: Bandicam settings
For recording the best way is Fraps or Dxtory. These programs allow to record gameplay with original quality (Lagarith Lossless codec also needed if your choice is Dxtory).

You can also find more useful information about video encoding in this thread: https://longplays.org/infusions/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=1479&pid=2770#post_2770

I don't recomend to use Bandicam for recording, because this software usually drops frames and your video will not smooth. If you want record gameplay from retro console games you should use an emulator with AVI dumping function like Bizhawk.

Also you can investigate support section deeper, so you may find answers on your questions, I guess.

Re: Bandicam settings
Guys, i'm new here. What settings I should use in Bandicam? (or maybe you can suggest me another program for best quality) Usually I choose xvid (quality 100) codec and render the video in Sony Vegas Pro 12.

I used YUV420 because it was recommended in the video I watched about DxTory. But 444 looks much better. I'll try it Smile
