Re: Why only 2 videos per day?
I just think that now this buffer is so big - its enough for few years at minimum. Am I wrong?

You have to think longterm - some longplayers that do alot videos right now might not be able to do so in the future.
So if we release all our videos right now, what would we do next year when we cant reach 730 videos? Release only 1 per day?
Its better to be consistent with 2 per day and having a buffer Smile

Re: Why only 2 videos per day?
On "Latest 999 videos" page
http://longplays.org/viewpage.php?page_id=17

Theres nearly 6 months (ok, lets think its 7 months).
So - 7*30 = 210 days. 1000 videos

Its 4-5 videos per day.

So its 2 times much more.
But on youtube shedule its 2 per day. Why not 3-4 at least?

Re: PC Sub Categories?
Looking at the current categories, Arcade and PC are the only ones that haven't been broken down into sub categories. Arcades don't really need one that I can think of, but I can see how it might be relevant to PC's, at least as far as including a section for free indie games and maybe a Steam category, considering that Steam will soon be releasing their Steam Link and Steam Machines to support games included on their site.

Right now we allow for unlicensed / hacks for consoles, but nothing for free indie games (that I can see) for PC's, and yet there are plenty that would appropriately fit this category (between RPG Maker games, Unity, Game Maker, and many others), some of which have been well-received throughout the internet. A couple quick prime examples:

Super Mario Brothers: The Seven Sages - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6X0vcNMHOg

Return to Sector 9 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWxCRATRkKY

Re: Enable Video Comments.
I'm for a "rating" system, at least for here. And then adding an option to sort by rank. Maybe keep it simple (1-5) with 1 being the lowest and 5 the highest based on whether we liked it or not.

thanks for the suggestions! Maybe you can ask that to the admins. That would be a great idea!

Re: Promote enabling subtitles for all LongPlays
I have come across a few videos that have had some major problems so I would like to suggest that there be some additions made to the requirements of standards for future uploads of longplays. I know using default settings is highly encouraged on the how-to sections of the forums but I would like to offer a differentiating opinioning on this as in many games the default sound settings are not in any way optimal for the best viewing (or even playing, for that matter) experience. So before anyone starts the humongous task of recording a 3+ hour video of the game, I would highly recommend playing around in the game for a while and adjusting the volume levels of sound effects, music and dialogue to proper levels in proportion to each other as these cannot be controlled by the viewer in retrospec. Some videos have had the music track waaayy too loud in comparison to the dialogue and because of this the dialogue is unintelligable. Sometimes this is, of course, just a product of a poor recording on the voice over engineers part during game develpoment, but in order to conquer these problems I would like to encourage a standard that promotes always enabling full subtitles for the game, even if they are turned off by default. Thoughts?

Re: Enable Video Comments.
I second that. Comments and ratings for all longplays should be enabled. And the comments viewer should have either a scroll function or an archive link (like in the Shoutbox) or both.

I think you're on the right track. There should be a clear section for request, but also limit the number of requests. Some people request tens of games at a time and collecting all the requests into a list with hundreds of games is not only tedious, but defeats the whole purpose of making requests. It's like saying, just record every game out there. If the request section was automated, there could be a set number of requests each member could add. For example 3 / month. This would help requesters to think more carefully what games they would actually want to see. Games with more requests could be highlighted in the list as higher priority.

Aye! I can see single posts listing up to many dozens of games at once and there ain't just no way that is gonna happen in a reasonable amount of time and effort with the few people actually involved in doing these longplays (god bless you, you oughta be paid for the work you do!). You should put out a kickstarter campaign to fund and use that money to hire professionals to make the long plays! Hehe. =P On a more serious note, I think one or two requests and/or votes per month per user would be a good amount. Let's say one new game requuest or one vote on a game that is already on the requests list, per month per user. Different versions of the same game should be sorted out into different votable items on the list, of course, since sometimes remakes and remasters have a lot of differences when compared to the original, not to mention multiple paths in a single game e.g. Resident Evil or Command & Conquer type games with different playable factions or characters. Bujakasha!

Re: Voting for requested Longplays
I think there should be a collected list of all requested long plays in a very clear and easy-to-browse fashion and the possibility of casting your vote as a forum member as to which one of the games in the list you would like to be done next. That way people making the videos could see which ones are the most popular and requested out of the abundance of all the requests on the forums. Cheers!

Re: Enable Video Comments.
For the attention of 'Admin'

Is it possible to quickly go through the site database and enable Comments for All videos? I have been going through a few sections one video at a time, but it will take a life time to check them all this way.

Also, can the default settings of allowing Comments and rating be enabled by default please when completing a video submission.

Also, The recent Comments viewer on the front page could do with listing the game being commented on as well please.

Thx Wink

Re: More thread sorting options.
Hiyas!

I was just wondering if it would be feasible to make a feature into the forums where you could sort the threads by the amount of views or replies, or by the alphabetical order of posters or thread names. I'm assuming the only currently available way is by latest post? Cheers!

Re: Submission feature cuts longplay names
When I submit a longplay that has an apostrophe in it's name, the part of the name after apostrophe gets cut out when I enter the page where I have to provide information about a longplay.

So, when I was submitting Solomon's Key longplay, it was cut into Solomon. And now there is Valis77's a longplay that's supposed to be named American McGee's Alice, but its named American McGee instead: http://www.longplays.org/downloads.php?cat_id=2&download_id=5434

Fix it, please.

we just need to use a lossless codec when doing longplays for the best quality possible

Re: How to's on grabbing/encoding
Thanks for that info.

Is there a reason that you use the lossless instead of a direct final render by vegas? I too, use the lagarith codec when using MeGUI, however, Vegas can use GPU to speed up the process whereas meGUI doesn't (i think).

Re: How to's on grabbing/encoding
I was wondering if it's worth mentioning that it could be helpful for the more skilled LPers here to do a few vids and tutorials on using a few methods for encoding or grabbing videos.

For example, Sony vegas pro, Action!, Fraps. These are widespread, popular tools and thought I'd mention it.
