Player's Review

Set in a high fantasy world, the game follows the player character as they restore the land of Fa'Diel by creating the world around them and completing a number of quests in order to bring back the Tree of Mana.

Legend of Mana is a 1999 action role-playing game developed and published by Square ( now Square Enix ) for the PlayStation. While incorporating ARPG elements from the previous games, Legend of Mana has its own distinct style of gameplay. Instead of using the usual top-down view of the series, this game uses a side-scrolling view similar to a beat'em up game. But most notably, it gives the player the ability to shape the world's structure through the Land Make system, controlling the difficulty of regions and quests in a non-linear gameplay system rather than a strong main plotline.

Just like Secret of Mana was a huge influence for RPGs, Legend of Mana became a huge influence for the MMORPG genre, with many of its mechanics being copied by future games.

The North American PS localization changed pretty much all names for locations, items and characters. For example, " Niccolo ", is actually Nikita, and " Hitodama " is actually Zable Fahr! Also, the North American version removes the PocketStation icon from the barn menu, making it impossible to use the Ring Ring Land mini game to easily level up your pets while gaining tons of items, including elemental coins and raw crafting materials, some of which are not available in the game normally ( such as Maia Lead ) . The North American version also has lower weapon stats, faster leveling in New Game mode, etc.

This longplay includes two playthroughs. Part 1 is New Game with the hero, part 2 is New Game+ with the heroine where I take different quest routes and dialogue answers while showing more stuff that could not be shown in Part 1. During the first playthrough, I try to show as much content as possible, making the first part much longer than the second. Boss fights in part 1 may feel drawn out because I'm trying to show all their attacks and abilities, and sometimes they really don't want to use anything but their basic attacks. Most of the extra content was edited in at the end of part 1. In part 2, there is a part where I wander around the game world for a long time in order to get all special techniques, because I wanted to show these techniques with heroine's sprite. The amount of monsters in encounters also changes in some regions in New Game+, so that is another reason why I recorded a second playthrough.

I was not able to show the Calm and Indecisive personalities on pets, because these personalities are very hard to get. Calm causes pets to always attack the same target. Indecisive causes pets to randomly stop whatever they are doing.

Toto and Imu are hero's and heroine's names from the Legend of Mana manga adaptation, which is why the hero is named Toto in this longplay.
