Player's Review

"If you like the idea of flying an advanced military jet in a simulated combat mission then this is the game for you. This Hi-Tec MEGA game puts a highly advanced and extremely well equipped aircraft at your disposal. Black Hornet, a glimpse of the future. The next generation of stealth type aircraft?"

The Amiga version was released first with over twenty levels. The C64 version is very much cut down but a better game overall even though graphically it doesnt look that great. The C64 game has four levels and four special weapons (Missiles, megabomb, Bombs, Homing missiles) as well as normal bullet fire. Unfortunately as specials and main fire is all on the fire button you can quickly go through your special weapons and will need to re-arm. Enemies are few but quite annoying and can spray bullet fire in the same annoying way as flying shark.

You also need to watch out for damage which is not only taken by enemy fire, but by flying into the mountains. Basically avoid any white areas. You also have limited fuel to watch out for so as soon as you see a landing strip, press fire+up on it to land and re-arm. refuelling, repairing and re-arming requires money which is represented by score which is accumulated by destroying both air and ground targets. The megabomb is the most useful to me as you can rack up some score if there are lots of ground buildings to destroy. Take off then continue the mission. Each level has three landing areas to watch for.

Overall, I don't find it that great of a game. It's all to easy to take damage although you do have a good number of lives. The sounds are pretty terrible and gfx very muddy. However having only four levels and an animated ending makes it less of a chore to play through than the amiga game. If playing for score is your thing then some resource management is needed as if you spend it all you wont have much for the highscore table at the end. I likely overspend on fuel in this video and could have maybe gotten away with only landing twice per level.
