"The No. 1 arcade game that ruled the Earth is unleashed! Features the first ever full stop-motion animation, a colossal fighting engine for incredible hit combos and o massive number of normal moves, special moves and spectacular fatalities. One mother hubbard of a game!

Amiga conversion of the Arcade game Primal Rage. Probe Software previously converted Mortal Kombat one and two and both made use of extra ram to enhance the game. They are back with primal Rage for the A1200. only. The Game does not make use of AGA graphics and does work on A500 hardware but it needs 2MB of Chipram which is only standard on the A1200/A4000 and so marketed only for the A1200/A4000. The Whdload version is being played as the game has plenty of annoying disk swapping of four disks and only supports up to two drives. The cracked versions are much worse supporting only one drive. WHD isn't without it's own issues though with this game having issues on an A1200 020cpu 8mb fast config falling apart on the final level so an 040 config is being use which has the knock-on effect of speeding up the game dramatically which is more like playing on the A4000. I do let the demo at the start of the game show the game running at a Normal 1200 speed for comparison loading from floppy.

This is another fighting game with digitised characters which shares some similarities to the Mortal Kombat games. It's another odd game that has Player 1 on the right and it's controls are annoying requiring you to hold the fire button and execute directions for the moves. The second fire button allows you to execute further special moves again holding and selecting specific directional combinations. If you only have one button then you double tap fire and hold to get to the special moves. At the end of each match (not round) you get to pull off one of two fatality moves again requiring a specific move combination.

The longplay first goes through the game as normal on the toughest difficulty mode. The cpu player blocks a lot and can seemingly override your moves. I start out with Blizzard and note that his raise the 'ice geyser' move very rarely works and you are stuck in the move animation and very vulnerable. After completing I go through the other characters playing in one round mode to get through a bit quicker.

The game doesnt seem to have a proper 2p verses mode. Instead a second player can join and help with the story mode as player t2nd losing ends up being an island win. I use it to show a quick kill that I couldn't achieve against the cpu player due to blocking all the time. Finally I enter the cheat mode menu and show the bowling level. Not sure what it is about as it is cpu vs player for best score after knocking down humans. Then its a two player mode. I did try to see if I could get Volleyball mode to show but I cant confirm if it exists or not in this version. As you cant select which level you want to play in verses mode, you have to wait till you finally get to the cove (waterfall level) to even try it.

Overall, it's not a bad conversion but it's a conversion, based off the mega-drive game I guess of an arcade game that's not that great to begin with. The disk swapping makes it a real chore on a disk only system and more so with only one drive. The moves are not always easy to pull off often requiring a normal movement before it will acknowledge a special move combination. There's only five unique fighters with two evil clones so not a whole lot of content to play through. The fighters are lacking a fair amount of detail which is no doubt lost due to not making use of AGA on the 1200 it's aimed at. I found Chaos to be the most annoying to control as the special moves have some weird combinations I just cant make work as well as the fart having seemingly no effect on the cpu players. Talon is another I didn't get on with.
