Player's Review

"Wanna see a traffic jam? Park this baby on your floor and you'll be stopping customers left and right.
Hey, this is no ordinary driving game. With its advanced high resolution graphics made possible by SYSTEM 32 and the incredible Sega Digital Stereo System, OUTRUNNERS brings all the pulse pounding, adrenalin pumping realism of a Gran Prix driving adventure right to your floor. And its knock-dead twin seat cabinet will have you turning record profits in record time! OUTRUNNERS takes players on a touring race around the world via hairpin turns, dangerous detours and constantly changing road and weather conditions. Speed and strategy will determine the victor as OUTRUNNERS challenges every ounce of driver skill. With OUTRUNNERS' interactive steering wheel and lightning quick acceleration, you'll be turning G-forces into C-notes. Players can choose from eight exciting vehicles, each with its own set of characteristics, such as transmission, perspective, power and manoeuvrability. Each machine is geared to a different level of driving ability, so everyone from veterans to novices can compete equally for the checkered flag."

The arcade sequel to the massively successful Outrun expanding on the formular which made it great by adding multiple vehicle choices and doubling the number of routes. A great game in it's own right that strangely only saw one additional console port to the Genesis. How sad is that. The arcade game was built around the concept of competing against another player which instead of being optional, was kind of forced into the genesis version which i guess killed interest in that version and no further ports were attempted.

The longplay goes through multiple route combinations with the goal of reaching all ten destinations. Whilst doing so I try out each car with varying results as each car handles differently. The game was left on the default difficulty setting of Normal. There does not appear to be any credit roll to unlock as each credit is attributed to one track play.
