don't record fron now, record from saveram. The problem seems to be when the game needs to write to the memory card for the first time.

If you mean when recording a 'Movie', Then Select 'Start From SaveRAM'

The issue was having the second memory card inserted. When game is starting, go into playstation settings and untick memcard 2, save and reboot core. should work now.

I tried Road to World Cup 98 PS1 (USA) and it seems to work fine assuming that is the same game as you are referring to.

Have you got the green tick in bottom left corner of bizhawk to show its a good verified disc image?
